The Heart Walk

The final practice I will offer you in this chapter is the Heart Walk. The Heart Walk is a practice that I developed to help myself become faster at tapping into and following the messages from my heart and intuition. The practice is simple. Intentionally set aside a block of time when you have nowhere to be and nothing to do. During this time, just notice what impulses arise and follow them.

This started for me with going for a walk or a drive, and every time I got to an intersection, I would just notice which direction I felt drawn toward and then turn that way. But you don’t actually have to be in motion. You might get the impulse to stay home and color. You might get the impulse to sit and look out the window for an hour.

It doesn’t matter what you do—and it may seem a little silly. What matters is that you listen and follow what you hear. This is a kind of playdate for your heart. It gives you a chance to practice the skills of listening, noticing, and trusting what you hear from your heart and then putting that into action. It may feel like a diversion, but this is at the heart (pardon my pun!) of what we are doing with this work. This is a practice that helps to unlock synchronicities and more ease in any other changes that you are making.

As you practice, things in your life will start to enter more of a flow state, change will naturally start to bubble up, and that will put you right into position for the topic that we cover in our next chapter: resistance!
